Hellooooooo! I’m back from my Christmas vacation. I hope that you all had a chance to take some time off and spend it with family–regardless if you celebrate Xmas or not. VACATION RULES!

My Christmas was great. I received so many lovely presents from my family, but the items of most interest to you all would most likely be my Nicolas Cage wine goblets:

And a Sous Vide cooker (thanks, Nick & Laura!) Now I can cook plastic bags of food in water at a low temperature whenever I want! I have no idea how successful I will be with this technique (Conor at One Man’s Meat is absolutely bonkers for sous vide), but I am looking forward to experimenting!

But first, a look back at the year that was!

2015 highlights:

But the most important thing that happened this year was Margot!

Oh, and I met David Duchovny.

David. Fucking. Duchovny.

I die.

So, to put a cap on 2015, so to speak, I’m sharing with you a doozy of a recipe that I made back in November. From the 1978 book, Family Circle Casserole Cookery, Cabbage Crown!

So there you have it. The  meat mixture ended up more pasty than anything else. I cut out the center of the cabbage with my trusty melon baller, but I still had to keep slicing off of the bottom to get it to fit into my slow cooker. I was pretty proud of myself. I mean, it looked exactly how I would imagined it would.

BUT!

Like a good portion of the food I make from the 70s–this was rough. I couldn’t eat it. However, I’m still glad that I gave it a shot. I had to– IT’S AN ENTIRE CABBAGE STUFFED WITH MEAT PASTE!!!

And with that, I’m done with 2015.

Happy New Year everyone! See you in 2016 🙂

  • What a year! Although I'm with Silver Screen - as soon as you mentioned David Duchovny, my memory flashed on the Duchovny and tea post. Lol! Happy New Years to you, although I'm not sure how you'll top 2015. Better get busy, you're too young to peak! Haha!

The cabbage? I just don't know what to say about that...

  • You met Duchovny? That is AMAZING - and surely an excuse to repost that picture you put up once of him drinking a cup of tea in the buff.... Or did I dream that?!

  • "Like a good portion of the food I make from the 70s–this was rough. I couldn’t eat it. However, I’m still glad that I gave it a shot." I can't wait to see what you make in 2016! (Even if, maybe, I don't want to eat it...)

  • I love recipes that can double as craft projects, and the stuffed cabbage looks as if it qualifies! I'm sure it would be more fun to make than to eat, though.

  • Reblogged this on sixdegreesofstoogeration and commented:
When people ask why I LOVE the 70s so much, I usually give an answer like the fashions, music, movies, etc. But there's one thing I usually forget to mention...the FOOD! Forget Mid-Century's love of all things gelatin(e), the 70s were a crazy time for food. (Also, everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was sooooo BROWN!)

  • Whoo! Getting out of the grays (greys) is indeed a cause for celebration! I'd tell you to get a couple of monogrammed thermoses, but they got rid of Kitchenette. (You haven't lived until you read about the worst restaurant customers ever.)

Glad you're back, and Happy New Year!

      • Because I have no life, I racked (Wracked? Whatever.) my brain trying to figure out what site it went to--I thought it was the Hairpin, but nope! It's Wonkette. So prepare to have laughter coming out of the "mouth part of your face."
