Before we even start–I looked up Wooloomooloo so you don’t have to. It is a suburb of Sydney.
Therefore, this is an Australian beverage.
And although not categorized as a Bloody Mary, the inclusion of tomato sauce/juice makes it eligible to be graded on the Tomato Scale.
So, I made it as directed.
Here are my notes:
This tastes like watered-down gin. But it’s a pretty melon color.
So I upped the amounts of the other ingredients.
Modified totals:
1 oz tomato juice
.5 tsp worcestershire
more Tabasco
white pepper
And now it somehow tastes even more like gin?
What kind of alcoholic sorcery is this?
Added the traditional garnishes for gin martinis.
No change.
So I added a lot of black pepper.
Slight improvement since it lightly numbed my tongue.
Meh.
1/5 on the Tomato Scale
Related/Unrelated to Dinner is Served 1972: Did you see the new Laufey video that dropped on Monday? It’s got all kinds of MCM deets and Mad Men vibes, but with an Asian twist:
Fun! Who knew that Bossa Nova was back?
And yes, that is Hudson from Heated Rivalry. In lil’ booty shorts.
Yes, I am a wee bit obsessed. But you cannot be the tiniest bit surprised by this.
I am no stranger to hyperfixation. See:
This is what I do. When I invest in a TV show, I invest in a TV show.
Saying all that, let me introduce you to one of the greatest advertisements in the history of advertising:
It premiered yesterday and the world hasn’t been the same since.
That bass line (BOWIE!). That wink. That choreography. Those shorts.*** WOOF.
It almost makes me want to dance on a treadmill.
But that would end in certain death.
So, brace yourselves for next spring, kittens! Expect an entire series of HR-inspired dishes when the countdown to season 2 begins.
Because this is what I do. To quote Will Graham, this is my design.
***I would like to thank the stylists for putting these guys in Magnum P.I. shorty shorts–the correct length of short.
And please, please, please! Someone go write the script for “The Patrick Swayze Story” or a new “Dirty Dancing.” We already have our leading man:
