Wiener Wednesday: 207. Deviled Hot Dogs

OK, I’m a crazy person.

AN ABSOLUTE CRAZY PERSON!

It is just now, JUST NOW! As I am writing this goddamned post that I realize that in 2021 I ALREADY MADE THIS DINNER!!!

And I do not have another hot dog dish to offer for the first Wiener Wednesday of 2023.

So this is an epic fail. And, to be honest, very embarrassing. I mean, am I at the point in this thing where I have absolutely NO RECOLLECTION of what has and hasn’t happened in the world of Dinner is Served 1972?

Is this perimenopausal brain fog? Early on-set dementia? What is that other thing called–wet brain?

HOWEVER! Back when I made Deviled Hot Dogs in 2021—it looked like this:

And the card looks like this:

And now to this week’s Deviled Hot Dogs:

And now back at the original card:

So, it was worth a do-over.

  • I didn't recognize the name, but as soon as I saw the card, I thought I remembered that you had made it already.

  • Honestly, if you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have remembered it either. And I think your second attempt looks more like the original recipe card photo. So yes, it was worth a redo, because who doesn't like spicy, deviled dogs?!

  • Welcome to my "old fart" world of repeating yourself! Truthfully, I did not recall your earlier foray into deviled hot dogs until you mentioned it, so I think it's been long enough to give the recipe another try. How were they this time? Those cherry parfaits look pretty good too.

    • They were fine--kinda meh. The cherry parfaits were good---would have been much better if I had used the full fat/sugar versions of the pudding and the pie filling--but still good.

  • It is sooo easy to redo something and not even realize it when you've had the blog a long time. I know there have been times when I've worked on a post for a recipe and then it dawned on me that I'd already featured it. I also discovered that I posted overviews of the same book (The Kraft Cookbook: 75 Years of Good Food Ideas) twice-- though luckily, I chose to feature and entirely different set of recipes the second time around. I'm willing to bet there are other overlaps I haven't picked up on, so you're not alone in having trouble remembering what you've already covered.
