2-in-1 International Recipe Collection: Salty Dog (1977)

So lately I have been absolutely obsessed with grapefruit juice. Grapefruits are auto-picks in my Imperfect Foods box and I had no idea what to do with them aside from put them in salads.

This was before I came across this recipe card:

And it’s low-calorie to boot!

(although the calorie count on food/drink is really such a non-issue for me at this point. I don’t know the last time I wore pants without an elastic waistband. Also, I have decided  to never wear a bra again. The world better prepare itself for my nipples.).

Salty Dogs couldn’t be more simple.  And with the salt it really has a margarita vibe to it. They are delicious and refreshing. Perfect for summer–which it decidedly is NOT at the moment.

It’s going to snow this weekend? Is that right?

From weather.com:

Extreme Mother’s Day Weekend: Record Cold into the South, Snow in the Northeast, Potential New England Bomb Cyclone

Record lows. And whatever the fuck BOMBOGENESIS is

Could the bomb cyclone knock out the murder hornets and the virus?

Probably not. We wouldn’t be so lucky.

At least in the meantime I have the Salty Dogs. I am 100% going to make myself one later today after my box of food arrives. There should be 2 grapefruits in there.

Speaking of the box, if you want to try out Imperfect Foods, click the extremely disturbing dancing watermelons for $10 off your first box.

  1. I’m so flat that I gave up on wearing bras years ago. I kind of forgot they even existed until so many people started guiltily confessing that they were no longer wearing bras during quarantine.

  2. I love these drinks and everything else grapefruit but can’t have them anymore! Now I make my Salty Dogs with Fresca. Are you seriously expecting snow? We’re in the ’90s here and our grass is crunchy. Damned if I’m going to water it!

  3. This post brings back fond memories. I absolutely LOVE grapefruit, but can’t have it anymore. Greyhounds were a favorite drink and I also liked just peeling and eating grapefruit on its own. Le sigh…

Stay warm this weekend! We’ve had a hot week here in Southern California, so I’m looking forward to a bit of a cool down next week. And I’ll try to sleep after seeing the dancing watermelons (those eyes!).
