Wiener Wednesday: Chili Dog Bread Ring

This is the dish that you chose as the grand finale of this Wiener Wednesday revival!

This recipe was sent to me by Mr. Sauce, Esq.’s mom. She will henceforth be known as Mother Sauce.

Once Mother Sauce found out that I was a hot dog enthusiast, she started emailing me frankfurter recipes and this one seemed the most intriguing so I included it in the poll.

It is not what I expected. In my mind I imagined some sort of bundt cake with wieners mixed into the batter, but this wasn’t it. This was better.

It was basically a Weenie Wreath with chili and cheese in the middle. And it was delicious.

Here is the Readers’ Digest version of the recipe:

Take 4 hot dogs and cut them into thirds. Take a package of crescent roll dough and cut it into 12 equal pieces. Wrap the dogs in the dough. Place into round baking dish or skillet. Cook at 350 for 20 minutes or so–when it gets golden brown, they’re done.

In the meantime, make the chili of your choice or heat up a can of Hormel. Put the chili in the middle of the ring, top with cheese and bake for another 5 or 10 minutes or so to get the cheese all melty.

Top with green onions and serve with whatever chili dog accoutrements you desire.

So there you have it! I hope you enjoyed this little sentimental journey down Frankfurter Lane. Maybe I’ll do it again next year.

I am happy to announce that the Pieathalon will return in August! Keep your eyes peeled for updates.

Thank you again to Greg from Recipes4Rebels for the stunning artwork!
