Mardi Gras Milk Punch

Happy Mardi Gras!

I do not go out for Mardi Gras because it is one of the high holy of drinking days–with St. Patrick’s Day, New Year’s Eve, Cinco de Mayo, and the Day before Thanksgiving because that’s when the amateurs are out. As you know, I went pro many years ago.

So, since I don’t go out, I stay in. And this year I made Milk Punch.

This is one of the 27 volumes of the 1971 Foods of the World series published by Time-Life Books. The series was published beginning in 1968 through the late 70s. Each book is hardcover with illustrations and in-depth info and history on different cuisines. Although each book is rather large, there wasn’t enough room for all of the cookbooks, so accompanying spiral-bound recipe books were included for each volume.

I acquired some of the spiral-bound recipe books. But not all 27–which means that now I’m going to be on the hunt. But I do have this one, which is occasion-appropriate.

From 1971.

When I think of punch, I think of the 20+ serving libations that I serve at my parties. I am sure that there is a reason why this is called “punch,” but whatever. I had everything on hand at my house so this was easy.

So, this was eggnog. But not as good as eggnog. Maybe it was the confectioners sugar? I don’t know.

OK kittens–if you go out tonight, remember that moderation is key.

Yeah, right.

Have fun!
