The Potters’ Guild of Baltimore Cookbook Taco Dip

So last week I started watching The Wire with Mr. Sauce.

I was hesitant to watch it for so long because: Baltimore.

But I figured that after 8 years, I should finally watch it. It took me a few eps, but now I’m in it to win it.

I think this scene sealed the deal for me (warning–video has lots o’ swearing. And some boobs):

Brilliant.

I’m really digging it–not just because of the compelling storytelling, or the character development, or Idris Elba (hey, boo)–it’s like a Where’s Waldo of Baltimore.

I’ve been there!

It’s that place!

I know that corner!

OH, I know where that is!

I got very excited during the scene where D’Angelo took his girl out for a fancy dinner because it was shot at The Prime Rib (which is my fave restaurant in the city. If you ever go, order the Cold Piney!)

But Baltimore, yes. That’s how I’m going to segue into this particular dish.

Mr. Sauce got this cookbook for me as a little present last year because: Baltimore.

I don’t know what year this is from, but based the cover on the inclusion of recipes such as “Boursin,” Bran Muffins, and Mushrooms Stuffed with Pesto, I’d say the very early 80s. I dunno, that reads 80s to me. But what do I know?

Answer:

Anyhoooooo

P.S. Lynn Perlin contributed nearly every single recipe in this cookbook

It’s Taco Dip!

I brought this to a party; which is good because I could eat one of these by myself. No lie. My mum made a very similar version every time we’d have a group of people for summer parties. I have such fond memories of this dish.

Seriously, give me one of these cold, cheesy dips and a bag of tortilla chips and, well, it’d not be pretty. Hence why it was good that I was with this in the presence of others.

It’s like a vegetarian taco salad on steroids. With nothing but the dressing.

I wish I had one now while I’m writing this. It’s good shit.

Change of topic!

OK, you know that I have a large collection of cookbooks (I don’t even know how many, to be honest). And of those cookbooks, there’s a good number that I have not yet featured on the blog, but desperately want to.

I have a hard time making decisions, so I’m gonna let you do it!

Then I’ll have yinz pick a recipe from which ever cookbook wins.

I need you. I’m lazy.

  • You trying to make a suffle is going to be hilarity. I can not spell for shit especially Paris talk.

  • 1) Taco Dip *is*delicious! It's a dip and a salad, all in one.

    2) I gotta vote for the Southern Living Meats cookbook. My mother-in-law had all those SL cookbooks and some very good meals resulted from them.
