National Shrimp Day!

Yes, it’s true. May 9th celebrates the little crustacean known as the shrimp. Today, let’s observe the holiday by looking back on 3 shrimptastic dinners from the DiS! card set. Click on the photos to read more! 108. Baked Stuffed Shrimp This dinner was notable for actually being a brunch. And also because I preparedContinue reading National Shrimp Day! →

30. Lamb in Wine With Mushrooms

This is another dinner that I made so long ago that I almost completely forgot it. The only reason I know that I made this dinner and that I had to eventually write about it is because I have been carrying around the recipe card for No.30 in my datebook (yes, I still use aContinue reading 30. 49. Paella

Ohmygodyouguys! An actual Dinner is Served dinner! When was the last time that happened? Um, so long ago that I can’t even tell you how long ago it was that I made this dinner. So long ago that #49 was the card voted to be my 80th dinner. So excuse me if I don’t talk atContinue reading 49. Paella →

58. Scandinavian Fish Scallop

I had been looking forward to #58 for quite a while. It’s not every day you take on a recipe that includes canned fish balls as an ingredient, amiright? Plus, you can sing “fish balls” to this little ditty (starts at 2:10). Fish balls, fish balls, roly poly fish balls. Fish balls, fish balls, eatContinue reading 58. Scandinavian Fish Scallop →

107. Seafood Mousse

I know that I’ve mentioned that DiS! offers up desserts and brunches in addition to their giant-ass dinners. Well, #107 is a luncheon. I don’t know why, but for some reason luncheon sounds fancy. Fancier than brunch, right? And seriously, what’s fancier than crustacean-flavored Jell-O? By the way, Cleve was thrilled when I announced that IContinue reading 107. Seafood Mousse →

Chinese Spiced-Salt Prawns and Tea Egg Recipes

Darlings, since you asked so nicely, here are the recipes for the Spiced-Salt Prawns and the Tea Eggs. I will get the 1-2-3-4-5 Sticky Spareribs recipe up later this week. Spiced-Salt Prawns This recipe is from Yan Kit’s Classic Chinese Cookbook which is an excellent Chinese cookbook. 31. Chow Mein

Lately it seems like I’ve been eating beef, beef, beef, and more beef. And I guess that in October I have–this month I had one of the best meals of my life at The Prime Rib Baltimore–where I ate just that: prime rib. Lots and lots of prime rib. If you are ever in Baltimore,Continue reading 31. Chow Mein →

108. Baked Stuffed Shrimp

In the world of Dinner is Served! #108. Baked Stuffed Shrimp is classified as a brunch. Shrimp brunch? I don’t think so. I love shellfish, but not so much before noon. Hence, I made #108 a dinner. This was a special dinner because I had guests. I played hostess to my friend Melissa, who isContinue reading 108. Baked Stuffed Shrimp →

102. Chef’s Salad

It’s been hot here in the mid-Atlantic. And I mean HAWT. Depending on which Meteorologist you trust, it was to hit well over 100 this week. Blarg. So I’ve been trying to avoid turning on the oven and instead use the toaster oven and microwave and electric skillet. But, as some of you know, runningContinue reading 102. Chef’s Salad →

110. Filled Omelets

A little fact about Dinner is Served. They’re not all dinners. In the latter part of the set (from 99 on) there are salads, desserts, and appetizers. And there are also brunches! #110 Filled Omelets is my first brunch. Brunch should be shared with friends (and morning cocktails) so I thought that entertaining guests wasContinue reading 110. 18. Sweet and Sour Shrimp

1970s at-home Chinese cuisine. Let that idea marinate in your brain for a bit. Scary, right? I went into #18 with a bit of trepidation just because I really love Chinese food and despise Wok and Roll, LaChoy mall food court Chinese food.  I have cooked a lot of Chinese food in my day.  InContinue reading 18. 54. Shrimp Creole

Now, I didn’t plan to prepare a Creole dish for Mardi Gras, because I really don’t keep track of such drinking holidays. I don’t need a reason to drink–your Cinco de Mayo is one of my any given Thursdays. Now on to Creole Shrimp! Now, with this recipe I followed it to the letter. TheContinue reading 54. The @smirnoff Ice PIck (1975) "Andrea is meeting my family for the first time.
I told her to wear white.
It isn't a must at The Club, but definitely--strongly--recommended. And here she comes in looking like a McDonald's employee with her toes hanging precariously over the edge of her sandals. They're gripped on for dear life as she tries to play croquet.
At least in those ugly pants you can't see the Smirnoff Ice Pick she spilled all over herself. I don't think she knows she's not drinking iced tea. Uncle BoBo keeps refilling her glass. She sways ever slightly more with each shot.
Uncle BoBo can't stop staring at her.
I don't know if it's because he's offended that she totally miffed the dress code, or if he's trying to figure out what she looks like under all that brown corduroy.
I hate Uncle BoBo.
Oh god, would it have killed Andrea to wear a pastel?"
