90. Scallops in Chafing Dish

This was a fail. Is it wrong for me to just, right off the bat, say that? Does that just kill the suspense and you’ll stop reading right now? Well, I’ll take that chance. Let’s see how I got there. #90 started out promisingly because I had another lovely produce crate from Arganica. I usedContinue reading 90. Scallops in Chafing Dish →

76. Stuffed Green Peppers

This was my Hurricane Irene meal. Or, as I liked to call it: Hurrican’t Irene or Hurrilame Irene. I don’t want to make light of the flooding and destruction that happened in other parts of the country but here in my little sliver of Baltimore City, we never lost power or cable television. The lights didn’tContinue reading 76. Stuffed Green Peppers →

116. Vanilla Bavarian Cream

I went back home to my beloved Pittsburgh for Labor Day weekend, so I’ve been off the grid. But don’t worry, although I wasn’t out and about on the Interwebs, I was still cooking. The weather was absolute crap when I was away–rain, rain, cloud, fog, cold, wind, rain, gray–not the best weather for aContinue reading 116. Vanilla Bavarian Cream →

57. Chicken Pot Pie

Greetings and Salutations! I haven’t served dinner recently because I was in Las Vegas last week. I will expound on the Vegas trip in my next post, but I will tell you this: it is a good thing that I made #57 and used my last whole chicken before I left for Sin City. Why?Continue reading 57. 11. Baked Stuffed Bass

I’m not a fan of seafood that is not of the crustacean variety. I’ve mentioned that fact every time a fish card is drawn. In some cases I have been pleasantly surprised, and in others I’m all “I still don’t like fish” and in the case of #28 Tuna-Cheese-Macaroni-Loaf I was all “screw you, fish!”Continue reading 11. 19. Glazed Rock Cornish Game Hens

As you all know, Friday was the Royal Wedding. (I think you’d have to be blackout drunk for the past 4 months to be unaware of it). Anyway, although I’m not a huge Anglophile (Absolutely Fabulous and Morrissey excluded), I wanted to make something decidedly British in honor of Kate and William’s nuptials. But theContinue reading 19. Glazed Rock Cornish Game Hens →

67. Tamale Pie

I’ve been very dilligent on the cooking-end of Dinner is Served! but I must admit that I’ve gotten a little behind on the posting. So it’s not until now that I give you #67, Tamale Pie. Please keep in mind I don’t remember how long ago I made it and I apparently did not take anyContinue reading 67. Tamale Pie →

46. Baked Fish Fillets in White Wine

A quick post for a quick weeknight meal. #46, Baked Fish Fillets in White Wine, includes a lot of things that I like: artichokes, asparagus, lemon, rice pudding, butter and white wine. Lots of white wine. But the main ingredient is something that I don’t like at all: fish. I don’t cook fish. As I’ve stated inContinue reading 46. Baked Fish Fillets in White Wine →

45. Baked Ham With Raisin Sauce

Note: this meal contains my first foray into gelatin molds. I really enjoy a good baked ham so I approached this card with both anticipation and trepidation. You see, my mum’s Christmas Eve ham is the stuff of legend. Partly because of her preparation, partly because we only have it once a year, but IContinue reading 45. Baked Ham With Raisin Sauce →

The @smirnoff Ice PIck (1975) "Andrea is meeting my family for the first time.
I told her to wear white.
It isn't a must at The Club, but definitely--strongly--recommended. And here she comes in looking like a McDonald's employee with her toes hanging precariously over the edge of her sandals. They're gripped on for dear life as she tries to play croquet.
At least in those ugly pants you can't see the Smirnoff Ice Pick she spilled all over herself. I don't think she knows she's not drinking iced tea. Uncle BoBo keeps refilling her glass. She sways ever slightly more with each shot.
Uncle BoBo can't stop staring at her.
I don't know if it's because he's offended that she totally miffed the dress code, or if he's trying to figure out what she looks like under all that brown corduroy.
I hate Uncle BoBo.
Oh god, would it have killed Andrea to wear a pastel?"
