Let raise a cocktail or two to one of the best shows ever on television–Mad Men.
Over the years I made lot of food and drink inspired by the show, and a lot of recipes from The Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook. So many that I was invited by the book’s authors to participate in a “virtual dinner party” to celebrate the show’s final season. It also was a competition judged by some pretty impressive people:
Evan Kleiman, WCRW’s “Good Food” Host
Faith Durand, Executive Editor, The Kitchn
Warren Bobrow, author Whiskey Cocktails & Apothecary Cocktails
Arthur Bovino, Senior Editor, The Daily Meal
Kathy Gunst, Chef, NPR’s “Here and Now”
Leah Wilson, Editor-in-Chief of Smart Pop, BenBella Books
Joelle Delbourgo, Literary Agent
Nina Gallant, Food Photographer
Catrine Kelty, Food Stylist
Spoiler alert: I won two categories.
STEak mad men (steak diane)
Ah, after almost a year and a half the time had finally arrived for the return of Don Draper. While thousands of people across the nation were hosting Mid-Century Modern Man Men parties in honor of this glorious occasion, Cleve and I celebrated in a more low-key manner with a Mad Men Tete-a-tete. Hosting a Mad Men-themed Continue reading Steak Mad Men (Steak Diane)
STERLING COOPER DRAPER RUMAKI & GIMLET
Darlings, it really does seem as though it were yesterday that we were reintroduced to the goings on of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. And here we are, already at the end of another season. I really hope that I don’t have to wait another entire year for the show to return. I could be dead Continue reading Sterling Cooper Draper Rumaki & Gimlet

THE CLASSIC OLD-FASHIONED
Holy shit, that’s delicious! I said out-loud to absolutely no one when I had the first sip of this Classic Old-Fashioned. Here’s the skinny: 1 rough-cut brown sugar cube*** 2 dashes aromatic bitters 2 ounces rye whiskey 1 thickly cut orange zest twist, using paring knife, not peeler hand-cut ice cubes*** Place sugar cube in Continue reading The Classic Old-Fashioned
