151. Baked Stuffed Redsnapper Fillets

Now, after the fever dream that was 197. Pork Chops and Scalloped Potatoes, I present a more conventional post–one that a revolves around the act of cooking and the food. I even took detailed, time-stamped notes like I used to back in the day. Speaking of back in the day, I made this so long agoContinue reading 151. Baked Stuffed Redsnapper Fillets →

197. Pork Chops and Scalloped Potatoes

Sooooooo, sometimes I will half-write a post, put it in my draft folder, and return to it at a much later date. This is definitely one of those instances. Yesterday I opened this post and had no idea what the hell I was reading. Turns out that what I discovered may be the greatest stream-of-consciousness/free-verseContinue reading 197. 27. Swedish Meatballs (Readers’ Choice)

Snow day! Snow day! Snow day! Yeah, here in Baltimore we are getting hit by quite the winter (spring?) storm. And everything is closed. EVERYTHING. It is supposed to snow until 5pm tonight, but look at what I’ve got outside my window before noon: My street doesn’t even look like a street. I don’t think I’llContinue reading 27. Retro Reheat Redux: Welsh Rarebit

Two weekends ago (yes, it does take me rather long to post these, doesn’t it?), I went down to Federal Hill to meet some friends who had driven down to Baltimore for the Ravens vs. Steelers game. As you all know, my beloved Steelers got totally spanked by their opponent. Bully to you, Ravens (althoughContinue reading Retro Reheat Redux: Welsh Rarebit →

36. Baked Swiss Steak (4th of July Spectacular Spectacular!)

America. America. Land that I love, O say can you see the amber waves of grain?  Land of thy pilgrim’s pride, from sea to shining sea, should auld acquaintance be forgot, it’s a fucking grand old flag! OK, I got that out of the way. Swiss Steak has nothing to do with Switzerland (a lovely country). ‘Swissing’Continue reading 36. Baked Swiss Steak (4th of July Spectacular Spectacular!) →

77. Braised Short Ribs

This is a sad post, for many reasons. First off, this happened: Tea Leoni, David Duchovny split again June 29, 2011 Actors Tea Leoni and David Duchovny have split up — again — according to Entertainment Tonight. They were married in 1997 and had two kids, but separated in 2008. Duchovny voluntarily checked himself into rehab for sexContinue reading 77. Braised Short Ribs →

14. Ham Rolls with Pecans

Quickie weeknight meal! For this I used the leftover Canadian Bacon/ham from the Filled Omelet brunch a few days before. There’s no reason to waste perfectly good ham, am I right? I also liked the name of this dinner because ham rolls makes me think of Pork Roll a.k.a. Taylor Ham, which is one of the finer thingsContinue reading 14. Ham Rolls with Pecans →

11. Baked Stuffed Bass

I’m not a fan of seafood that is not of the crustacean variety. I’ve mentioned that fact every time a fish card is drawn. In some cases I have been pleasantly surprised, and in others I’m all “I still don’t like fish” and in the case of #28 Tuna-Cheese-Macaroni-Loaf I was all “screw you, fish!”Continue reading 11. 6. Deviled Rock Lobster Tails

First things first. I have to get this out of my system: Okay! Now we can get down to business. #6 Deviled Rock Lobster Tails. I chose this menu for 2 reasons: 1. lobster tails were on sale for $6.99 each (yeah, pricey. But who knows when they’d be on sale again). 2. I wanted toContinue reading 6. 101. Potato Salad

I haven’t posted in a while because I have been out of commission for a bit. Last weekend I was back in the Burgh for the holiday weekend and then as soon as I got home I came down with a bit of a cold. In turn, Cleve has come down with the same thing.Continue reading 101. Potato Salad →

16. Pennsylvania Baked Spareribs

I am going to say it right off the bat: I love Pennsylvania Baked Spareribs. #16 is definitely one of my top 3 favorite Dinner is Served! meals thus far. But you might be asking yourself the same thing I did when I chose this meal: what the hell are Pennsylvania Baked Spareribs? When IContinue reading 16. Pennsylvania Baked Spareribs →

32. Pot Roast in Foil

Musings pre-#32: I confess that I have made this meal before. I think I might have mentioned it on the ‘about’ page. I prepared #32 back in November of 2009 (wow, is that right?) as part of a bet that Cleve and I had regarding the Pittsburgh mayoral race that year. The stakes were asContinue reading 32. 85. Roast Pork Tenderloin

If you recall, my first Dinner is Served! card was #41 Fruit Stuffed Pork Loin. That dish, albeit my first try and very technical, was a great success. Seriously. Read Cleveland’s comments from that one. Dinner is Served! had impressed with its first pork dish, and had a lot to live up to with #85Continue reading 85. Roast Pork Tenderloin →

45. Baked Ham With Raisin Sauce

Note: this meal contains my first foray into gelatin molds. I really enjoy a good baked ham so I approached this card with both anticipation and trepidation. You see, my mum’s Christmas Eve ham is the stuff of legend. Partly because of her preparation, partly because we only have it once a year, but IContinue reading 45. Baked Ham With Raisin Sauce →

The @smirnoff Ice PIck (1975) "Andrea is meeting my family for the first time.
I told her to wear white.
It isn't a must at The Club, but definitely--strongly--recommended. And here she comes in looking like a McDonald's employee with her toes hanging precariously over the edge of her sandals. They're gripped on for dear life as she tries to play croquet.
At least in those ugly pants you can't see the Smirnoff Ice Pick she spilled all over herself. I don't think she knows she's not drinking iced tea. Uncle BoBo keeps refilling her glass. She sways ever slightly more with each shot.
Uncle BoBo can't stop staring at her.
I don't know if it's because he's offended that she totally miffed the dress code, or if he's trying to figure out what she looks like under all that brown corduroy.
I hate Uncle BoBo.
Oh god, would it have killed Andrea to wear a pastel?"
