55. Hamburger Pie

First things first. And I don’t want everyone to get too excited…but #55 has a JELL-O MOLD!!! I know that I shouldn’t be put-off by the phrase “Hamburger Pie,” because there are many perfectly good pies that involve meat. Chicken Pot Pie and Shepherd’s Pie, for instance. But seriously, doesn’t Hamburger Pie sound a littleContinue reading 55. Hamburger Pie →

18. Sweet and Sour Shrimp

1970s at-home Chinese cuisine. Let that idea marinate in your brain for a bit. Scary, right? I went into #18 with a bit of trepidation just because I really love Chinese food and despise Wok and Roll, LaChoy mall food court Chinese food.  I have cooked a lot of Chinese food in my day.  InContinue reading 18. 46. Baked Fish Fillets in White Wine

A quick post for a quick weeknight meal. #46, Baked Fish Fillets in White Wine, includes a lot of things that I like: artichokes, asparagus, lemon, rice pudding, butter and white wine. Lots of white wine. But the main ingredient is something that I don’t like at all: fish. I don’t cook fish. As I’ve stated inContinue reading 46. Baked Fish Fillets in White Wine →

44. Chicken Cacciatore (Hunter's Style)

I think it’s time that I come forward and confess my dirty little secret. My name is Emily and I’m an addict. I hoard frozen chicken. On Saturday, when I went to the Safeway, I had a vague idea of the amount of chicken already in my freezer, but it was not until after IContinue reading 44. Chicken Cacciatore (Hunter's Style) →

26. Cioppino (Fish Stew)

This was my first try at cooking for others besides myself and Cleve. If it’s just us, who cares if Dinner is Served is late or ugly or burned. Or is a complete abomination, as was Tuna-Cheese-Macaroni Loaf. But it’s different when you’re cooking for guests, especially when your guests have self-inflicted dietary restrictions because they gaveContinue reading 26. Cioppino (Fish Stew) →

103. Mandarin Chicken Salad

This is a very special meal. No, not because it was fancy, involved weird ingredients or included a Jell-O mold. This is special because it is my 10th completed Dinner is Served! Which means that I only have 108 cards left. Sweet Christ on a cracker. What the hell have I gotten myself into? ThisContinue reading 103. Mandarin Chicken Salad →

50. Lamb Curry

Let me tell you a little story about me and curry. Imagine it–Pittsburgh, 1999. I had never eaten Indian food (my parents, at this time not being the most adventurous eaters, never ate Indian, so in turn I had never tried it.  In fact, I was the one who introduced my father to the wonders ofContinue reading 50. 54. Shrimp Creole

Now, I didn’t plan to prepare a Creole dish for Mardi Gras, because I really don’t keep track of such drinking holidays. I don’t need a reason to drink–your Cinco de Mayo is one of my any given Thursdays. Now on to Creole Shrimp! Now, with this recipe I followed it to the letter. TheContinue reading 54. The @smirnoff Ice PIck (1975) "Andrea is meeting my family for the first time.
I told her to wear white.
It isn't a must at The Club, but definitely--strongly--recommended. And here she comes in looking like a McDonald's employee with her toes hanging precariously over the edge of her sandals. They're gripped on for dear life as she tries to play croquet.
At least in those ugly pants you can't see the Smirnoff Ice Pick she spilled all over herself. I don't think she knows she's not drinking iced tea. Uncle BoBo keeps refilling her glass. She sways ever slightly more with each shot.
Uncle BoBo can't stop staring at her.
I don't know if it's because he's offended that she totally miffed the dress code, or if he's trying to figure out what she looks like under all that brown corduroy.
I hate Uncle BoBo.
Oh god, would it have killed Andrea to wear a pastel?"
