Musings on Brittany Murphy

OK, this post is totally random (but it’s my blog and I can write about whatever the hell I want to); one of the little news tidbits I heard today was that Brittany Murphy’s final movie is being released—more than 4 years after her death. I always liked her. Maybe because back when I waitressedContinue reading Musings on Brittany Murphy →

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Brian’s been hitting the bottle (and the catnip) all day long. He’s a hot mess. Look at him, he can’t even stand up straight. So how has your St. Patrick’s Day been thus far? It’s snowy here. Again. At work there was another delay; which was good because I have a cold and getting upContinue reading Happy St. Patrick’s Day! →

Chicken Cooked In Wine

Did anyone know that IKEA published their own cookbook back in 1979? I don’t know why this surprises me so much…

A Song for Everyone on the East Coast

Don’t let the weather get you down! I love Cannibal the Musical! I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it. Maybe it’s available online. Perfect for today!

Happy National Jell-O Week! (Brian bonus included)

It is once again that time of year. Yesterday began National Jell-O Week. Or at least according to the random holiday website that I just linked to. But anyhoo, National Jell-O week is, for me, and some other folks (I’m looking at you: Mimi, Ruth, and Brian) one of the happiest times of the year. It givesContinue reading Happy National Jell-O Week! (Brian bonus included) →

Happy Birthday, James Spader!

Screw Ducky. Screw Blane. (His name is Blane? Blane?) Can we all just agree that Andie should have ended up with Steff in Pretty in Pink? Well, he’d be my pick. Maybe I’m such a fan of Less Than Zero because there is not only Spader but RDJ, too! Another gem with them both: TuffContinue reading Happy Birthday, James Spader! →

Best Super Bowl Halftime Show of ALL-TIME

It’s that time of year again. Let’s take a moment to remember one of the greatest performances in the history of performances. *NSYNC shot flares from their hands. Nelly danced with Steven Tyler. Britney wore a gym sock as a glove. Mary J. Blige showed up in a giant fur thing. It made no senseContinue reading Best Super Bowl Halftime Show of ALL-TIME →

Yes, I’m still alive

Hey kittens. Sorry that I’ve been AWOL. The time off really messed with my writing mojo and I did a lot of partying over the break. I have no idea what day it is anymore. But don’t fret, I did some cooking over Thanksgiving (can you say Shrimp Sputnik?), I just haven’t had a chanceContinue reading Yes, I’m still alive →

Friday Fluff

I’m sorry that I haven’t posted in a while. I’ve been busy working on another writing project and just out and about and having fun–gallivanting about Baltimore. So I don’t have anything for you today food-wise. When I put it to a vote last week, you guys overwhelmingly said “why the hell not?” to meContinue reading Friday Fluff →

Foodie Pen Pals: June

OK, this kinda snuck up on me. So I apologize for this very brief post. Foodie Pen Pal Reveal Days deserve a little more thought than this, but, well, this is the due date. I was sent a lovely collection of dips/toppings from Ashlyn in Las Vegas. Here was her note: These are from FreshContinue reading Foodie Pen Pals: June →

Jam(s) of the Day!

I stole this idea–no! I mean, I was inspired by John, a.k.a. The Food & Wine Hedonist. He just did a run down of some of the best line dances of our time and I realized that one was missing. This isn’t a line dance, per se, but it always becomes one of sorts–with ass shakingContinue reading Jam(s) of the Day! →

Happy National Picnic Day: Potato Salad

Hola, friends! Happy National Picnic Day! This food holiday snuck up on me, so I don’t have anything brand-spankin’ new for you, but here’s a delicious dish from June 2011 that fits the bill. Perfect for picnics and cookouts, and it has BACON (and we all know that bacon makes everything better).  Here it is,Continue reading Happy National Picnic Day: Potato Salad →

Roast Lamb & Kale Curry a la Leftovers (with chutney Jell-O)

Every year for Easter I have a big ol’ roast leg of lamb. And then every year I end up with a whole mess of leftovers. But that’s not a bad thing because every year I make lamb curry. This Easter was no different. Oh, but this year I added a Jell-O mold. The bonelessContinue reading Roast Lamb & Kale Curry a la Leftovers (with chutney Jell-O) →

The @smirnoff Ice PIck (1975) "Andrea is meeting my family for the first time.
I told her to wear white.
It isn't a must at The Club, but definitely--strongly--recommended. And here she comes in looking like a McDonald's employee with her toes hanging precariously over the edge of her sandals. They're gripped on for dear life as she tries to play croquet.
At least in those ugly pants you can't see the Smirnoff Ice Pick she spilled all over herself. I don't think she knows she's not drinking iced tea. Uncle BoBo keeps refilling her glass. She sways ever slightly more with each shot.
Uncle BoBo can't stop staring at her.
I don't know if it's because he's offended that she totally miffed the dress code, or if he's trying to figure out what she looks like under all that brown corduroy.
I hate Uncle BoBo.
Oh god, would it have killed Andrea to wear a pastel?"
