For National Martini Day: The Pumptini

Happy Martini Day!

I promised in the French Springtime Brunch post that I’d be sharing with you the recipe for Mr. Sauce’s welcome drink:

The iconic cocktail from Vanderpump Rules, the PUMPTINI!

So, how did we end up making drinks from a Bravo reality TV show about a group of LA restaurant workers (who are also aspiring models and actors) at a restaurant owned by Lisa Vanderpump?

This scene from The Traitors US:

We watched The Traitors and became obsessed with Tom Sandoval.

He spent the entire season sweaty and looking shocked.

THE TRAITORS 308 SANDOVAL WIRED

We are six seasons deep into Vanderpump Rules, and I am LOVING it.

It’s cocaine-fueled insanity with a lot of costumes, tossed drinks, birthday parties, and small dogs. Seriously, everyone owns a small dog.

a pomeranian dog is sitting at a table with a glass of water .

a man in a tuxedo is holding a white dog in his arms .

a woman in a red top is talking to another woman in a white shirt

Here’s one of the most unhinged moments in the entire series run:

a woman is standing in a hallway and saying `` he 's a fucking battered wife! look at him ! ''

This is art:

When Lisa opens another restaurant in season 3, fittingly called PUMP, she wants a signature cocktail. The pink and fruity PUMPTINI is born.

Here’s a game: watch season 3 and drink every time someone says PUMPTINI.

You’re dead now.

The ultimate PUMPTINI moment (SOUND UP):

I can watch that again and again and never not laugh.

Here’s the PUMPTINI!

  • 4 red raspberries
  • 2 oz vodka
  • 3/4 oz orange liqueur
  • 3/4 oz grapefruit juice
  • 3/4 oz lime juice
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup

1. Muddle three raspberries in the bottom of a cocktail shaker with simple syrup
2. Strain out raspberry solids and seeds
3. Add remaining ingredients to the raspberry simple syrup.
4. Shake shake shake
5. Strain into a glass with a sugar rim
6. Garnish with the remaining raspberry

This is a high-effort bevvy–you have to cook the simple syrup, muddle the raspberries, sugar rim the glass, and strain the concoction. But it was no prob for Mr. Sauce, Esq.–he was a bartender before he became an attorney.

Here it is:

This is sooooo good. It’s like a Cosmopolitan, but extra-fancy and extra-tart. I love grapefruit juice. I don’t think the extra sugar is necessary, but it looks pretty.

But be careful! These go down as easy as Kristin did on Jax while Sandoval was sleeping in the other room

Bad joke. But 100% true.

a bartender is pouring a drink into a martini glass with the name jax and tom written on the bottom
I can’t get over that they used a clip of Tom obviously dropping the bottle in the opening credits.

For multiple seasons!

  1. Oh my! Until now, I’d only heard the name of the show and had a completely different idea as to what it was about. (The drink looks delicious, though.)
