192. Grilled Boneless Leg of Lamb

I am on Jury Duty, and there isn’t much to say about Card No. 192, so this is as good a time as any to tell you what happened in April.

In case you missed it, I posted on Facebook that we are the type of crazy people who throw an fancy party with an elaborate cake for a cat:

But I didn’t post on Facebook that a mere one month later, Margot crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

I can’t say it was unexpected–she was 16, after all. But it was sudden. She seemed to be pretty good until one day she wasn’t.

Margot was a wonderful cat. I adopted her when she was 8. She and Brian became (mostly) friends. The best thing to ever happen was this Titanic-type moment when they kissed at midnight on New Year’s Eve:

Margot was a happy cat. But when he passed away in 2019, she came into her own.  She LOVED being the STAR of the show.

I will not wax poetic about how she was loved and what an absolute angel she is.

Instead, some photos:

We tried to make her last day as nice as possible–we took her outside in her stroller to enjoy the fresh air and the birds, and we gave her strawberry ice cream (Margot LOVED dairy. She was the Dairy Queen).

And then the doctor came and took her little body away.

To say that we were gutted is an understatement. Our lives revolved around this cat. We were in deep mourning.

I still keep thinking that she’ll be there when I get home. I think, “Yay! I get to see Margot!” and then I don’t.

I always joked that Mr. Sauce, Esq. only stayed with me because of Margot (believe me when I say the sun rose and set over this cat for him) and that, once she passed away, Mr. Sauce, Esq. would be gone.

But no!

He’s still here and we are in the process of adopting another cat. I will share more once we get her home and settled. But we are very excited to give another senior lady a loving home for her later years.

I mean lamb! Boneless leg of lamb!

I overcooked the lamb. Which pissed me off, because the piece of meat was over $40, but it was good nonetheless.

The onion-mint marinade/chutney was a nice touch. It is something I’d consider doing again. And I made up the stuffed mushrooms as I went along, and they were excellent. Probably the highlight of the meal (go, me!).

  1. I’m so sorry about Margot! She was a very special cat, as was Brian Boitano. There is absolutely nothing wrong with hosting a dinner party for your pet’s birthday too. (We once had quite the snooty cat that would lose every bit of dignity he had whenever we’d cook lamb.)

  2. I am so sorry for your loss; we lost our Cooper some years ago and I still miss him. I hope that you’re well.

    I’ve only had lamb once, but this looks kind of interesting. I don’t know if it’s “$40 interesting,” though. Then again, basic ground beef around here is pushing $7+/lb., so maybe I should get used to those numbers.

  3. I’m so sorry to hear about Margot! She was lucky to have such a loving home. It’s good for them when they go quickly, but it’s so hard to process for everybody else.

  4. RIP sweet Margot. I hope Brian was waiting for you over the rainbow bridge. Really glad you’re adopting another senior cat. The lamb looks good and I love stuffed mushrooms.

  5. Oooh, I’m so sorry to hear about Margot. But as someone who volunteers for a cat rescue, thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking in an adult cat and giving her the best life possible.
