196. Seafood Fondue

It’s Fun With Fondue Month!

In the past I’ve just thrown up my fondue post which features a classic cheese fondue from Better Homes & Gardens Fondue and Table Top Cooking.

It also features R. Kelly’s rap melodrama Trapped in the Closet.

I refuse to post the youtube video because I don’t want to put money in his pockets, so now I only have my memories of this bit of poetry:

BITCH MOVE!!! she moves, and then, he looks at the cabinet,
he walks to the cabinet, he’s close to the cabinet, now he’s opening the cabinet.
Now pause the movie cos what i’m about to say to ya’ll is so damn twisted,
Not only is there a man in his cabinet, but the man… is a MIDGET!

Amazing.

I’m also not just reposting because the 1973 series included 196. Seafood Fondue!

I am glad that there’s a fondue in the series because I so rarely get to bust out the fondue pot. And fondue is just so fucking FUN!

Here’s my set-up

I bought two lobster tails and a half pound of shrimp–which was the perfect amount for the two of us. I also bought two of them because who knows when we’ll have lobster again.

I did not use my rainbow fondue pot because it is in pristine right-out-of-the-box condition. It is there for illustrative purposes.

Dinner table:

So, the fondue part of the fondue is just oil and salt. Which seems weird. And kinda gross. But DiS1972 went and pleasantly surprised me–fried lobster and shrimp–no breading or batter–is great!

As for the sauces–I threw together a standard tartar sauce, which was meh, and the cocktail sauce was cocktail sauce. But the avocado sauce!

The avocado sauce was so damn good. We cleaned out the entire dish. I know that avocado is a good match with shellfish (for instance, crab salads with avocado with sour cream), but it never occurred to me to just eat it as a condiment or dipping sauce. It is a lazy, creamy guacamole.

This dinner was so much fun. I had so much fun with fondue that I need to do it much more. BUT! The fondue pot will be utilized again very soon because after The Year That Never Was, the Holly Ball is back!

So not only do I get to bust out the fondue pot again, I’m unpacking the electric skillet, the crock pot and the rice cooker.

I hope to share many balls with you before Christmas.

  1. Oh, it sounds divine, everything I love. wish I was there. I am widowed and live alone, boo hoo. my fondue parties are dang sad.

  2. Fried lobster in avocado sounds fantastic! Hope you have some fun alpine inspired fondue party planned during the olympics for that groovy striped set— complete w 70s aprés ski fashion! (which was the absolute coolest 20th century fashion movement of all time)-imo

  3. Love your rainbow fondue pot. And I definitely understand breaking out the electric fondue pot (electric fondue — that should be the name of the next dance craze) for this application.

Looking forward to you sharing all those balls with us! ; )
