FUN FACT! May is National Egg Month!!!
Honestly, it seems like Egg Month should be April because; Easter. But perhaps the Egg Council of America people missed their chance to claim it.
Speaking of Easter, I had leftover dyed eggs from my Easter Braid that I needed to kill, which is why I decided to make some stuffed eggs.
Today’s recipe is from this humdinger of a cook book which looks to be number 2 in a series.
I did some research on Burda. Turns out that Burda Style is a German fashion magazine that contains the patterns for all of the outfits.
That’s kinda cool, to be honest. If only I knew how to use my sewing machine to do anything more than a straight line.
Oh, I found cook book No. 1:
Anyway, no. 2 was published in 1978 in West Germany.
It specifically states West Germany.
Ya know, I totally forgot that Germany used to be split.
As a kid I thought West Germany was pretzels and beer halls and Alps and David Hasselhoff.
East Germany was cinder block, grey skies, scary female Olympic athletes, and David Hasselhoff.
I think those are some East German athletes. Doing whatever this is:
Seriously. Who are these people? Where is this? What is going on there? What is that? It’s like a champagne fountain of people. Are those women diving off of it? Into what? WHERE ARE THEY GOING?
It’s like an Esther Williams musical number…on steroids.
Raise your hand if you got that joke.
Anyway, back to the Burda book.
I picked this recipe because Mr. Sauce, Esq. is a big fan of anchovies.
But he is not a fan of deviled eggs.
So…
The tomatoes really didn’t make any sense.
They’re nonsensical tomatoes.
Which is totally the name of the grunge band I just formed in my head.

Burda is extremely nostalgic for me. Since my mom, grandmother and aunt all knew how to sew (and off-the-rack clothes were expensive in the middle east), half of my childhood outfits all came from the pages of Burda magazine. I used to love to look through them and dream of life and travel to Germany/Europe. I still have a stack of vintage 70's Burdas that I love to peruse through every so often. I would love to find a copy of the cookbooks too; I didn't even know they existed! I'll have to give the eggs a try since I love anchovies too.
I can't even tell you where I found this copy. It wasn't online, I'm sure of that.
