Tonight is the finale of the FX mini-series Fosse/Verdon and I wanted to mark the occasion–as I tend to do with television shows (see: X-Files and Twin Peaks).
I’d love the show just for the dance numbers, but GIVE JEN LINDLEY ALL OF THE AWARDS RIGHT NOW!
I really should have cooked for the entire series a la Bette & Joan: Feud, (I know that I have a Joel Grey recipe somewhere!) but this snuck up on me! In the meantime, you can check out Liza Minnelli’s Potato Shells.
Anyhoo! I did a bit of research and was unable to find any celebrity recipes for Gwen or Bob, so I couldn’t tell you what they ate (although it seems like Bob survived on nothing but cigarettes, booze, and a variety of prescription drugs).
But I do know that Gwen appeared on a 1969 episode of The Ed Sullivan Show and did a little Bob-choreographed number called “Mexican Breakfast.”
It is now most famous for being the inspiration to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)” video.
Homage? Plagiarism? You decide!
So, Mexican Breakfast–I guess you go straight to huevos rancheros or a breakfast burrito, right? Well, I decided to forgo eggs all together and give it a bit of a French twist by using crepes instead of omelette or tortilla.
Garlic, jalapeno, onion, tomato, cilantro and lime stuffed into home-made crepes and topped with Muenster cheese.
These were good. And just what you’d expect.
I assume that tonight’s episode is going to cover Fosse’s last film, All That Jazz. I watched it once and was all kinds of “huh?” So I am going to have to revisit it. I am sure that it’ll make more sense that I’ve seen Fosse/Verdon.
