If you follow the FB page, you may remember that on the 9th I made the comment, “I think I want to take February off.”
Well, there’s only 3 days of the month left (we’re not in a Leap Year, right?), but I am still going to take the rest of the month off from the blog, regroup, rest, and come back in March with a vengeance.
I just needed a break: it’s been cold, work has been busy, I was away for a bit, I got snowed in, and my pipes froze last week, and I just can’t get myself motivated to write.
Anyway, if you follow the FB page, you may remember that I posted about Valentine’s Day at White Castle: they offer table service and decorate with flowers, candles and balloons. I lamented that there are no White Castles in Maryland and even if there were, I didn’t have a hot date to eat sliders with. My best friend Jamie commented that not only would she go to White Castle with me, she’d take me to see 50 Shades of Grey.
Hot damn!
So I flew to Chicago for Valentine’s Day.
Yeah, I seriously flew to Chicago to go to White Castle with Jamie and her husband, Jon.
I was not disappointed by White Castle. Although I need to remember the next time that I just need to stick to the little cheeseburgers. I like the chicken ring sandwiches and all, but the little sliders are where it’s AT!
And then we went to see 50 Shades of Grey. This is one hot date that I went on!
We had a drink at the cinema bar and then went into the movie. During the previews Jamie turned to me and said, “We need more drinks for this,” and quickly scurried to the bar and came back with a bottle of Prosecco, 2 champagne flutes, and a red rose in her teeth (they were giving them away at the cinema bar). And then, half way through the movie, she ran and got another bottle. And she did run because when she came back, it, the bottle was all kinds of shook up, and when opened, it fizzed all over the place.
And we laughed like crazy.
I really wanted 50 Shades to be the new Showgirls (one of my all-time favorite movies), but it wasn’t. It was better than I expected. It was better than I wanted it to be. Color me sad.
BUT! That doesn’t mean that we didn’t talk at the screen and I were sush’ed at least once during the movie.
So, the movie wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. But Jamie Dornan’s accent! It was the worst attempt at an American accent ever. In the film, when he says to Anastasia something like “I practice control in all things.” I said back to the screen, “Except for your accent!”
I kill me.
Anyway, it was a fantastic trip and perhaps my best Valentine’s Day ever (my apologies to any man I may have spent Valentine’s Day with in the past).
Also! I must mention that today is the 4th Anniversary of Dinner is Served 1972! Crazy, huh? So, yay to me! And yay to all of you for reading! I love yinz guys.
Basically, this is how I feel right now:
Except without the root beer as big as my head and a sack of delicious crinkle fries.
Also, this is the 4th anniversary of me bringing the joy that is Brian into my life! So here he is the day I came back from my trip. I think his stay in the kennel wore him out. He looks uncharacteristically small.
Cheers, everyone! I’ll see you all next month/week.
[…] I went to a White Castle when I saw Jamie in Chicago […]
I love your hair, and of course Brian.
Happy blog anniversary!!
White Castle used to stay open late in the days before 24 drive-thru, so it was always the place to stop after a concert, or last call at the tavern. I can’t imagine enjoying the food sober, but the Valentine’s experience with your friends looks like fun.
As for the movie, I’m old enough to remember when you had to go to the seedier part of downtown to catch a dirty movie. Then, gentrification happened, and they refurbished the Chicago Theatre.
Enjoy your break!!! I have not seen 50 Shades but I saw Jamie Dornan in a BBC? mini series last year where he played a serial killer and he was AWESOME!!!! Brilliantly creepy sexy. It was called The Falls. Not sure if you have seen it there yet? It also hada Gillian Anderson as the detective trying to catch him.
I have seen both seasons of The Fall. I loved him in it, but even more I loved Gillian. What a badass female lead character! I hope that there is a season 3.
The movie wasn’t dirty at all. Really tame, I thought.
Sadly.
Saw 50 Shades (as a favour to my sister-in-law) & it drove me bananas that Jamie Dornan kept opening the condom packets w/ his mouth. GRR!
LOL. At least he was using condoms, amiright???
I hate White Castle (steamed burgers, really?) but I love that you went there for Valentine’s. You look so happy! Also, this blog needs more Brian!
I promise more Brian.
I suspect that I will never see 50 Shades. I also think I will not miss it. Now, where’s my Viagra?
Happy Anniversary,
Conor
You’re not missing anything that you can’t see late night on Cinemax. LOL.
You are spoiling the mystique. Ohhhh 50 shades…
