Wiener Wednesday: Weenie Wreath

On Sunday I visited my friends Iris and Matt for the Steelers/Ravens game. The Steelers, in the face of adversity, and in spite of Charlie Batch’s old, achy joints, emerged victorious. Yay. But the real highlight of my Sunday was this hot dog holiday wreath, which was suggested by my friend (and Franco Dok Harris mayoral campaign veteran) Jen.

This is the photo that has been circulating Pinterest lately.

Red pepper bow!

Weenie Wreath.  Pretty self-explanatory.

  1. Wrap cocktail wieners in crescent roll dough.
  2. Arrange wrapped wieners in a circle.
  3. Bake until golden brown.
  4. Serve.

I got the absolute last package of Lil Smokies at the Safeway. It was mega-sized. I have so many little wieners in my fridge. The possibilities are endless.

Sonofabitch. Every. Single. Time!

Refrigerated crescent roll dough really confounds me

I sprinkled dried rosemary and marjoram on the wreath before it went into the oven.

I have no idea at what temperature the oven was set. And I don’t know how long it was precisely in the oven since my kitchen timer broke. But this was the finished product:

Weenie Wreath!
WEENIE WREATH!

I can’t take credit for the red pepper and basil bow–that was Iris.
But I brought my own star anise!

For my dipping sauce I combined some Hunt’s Original BBQ sauce (from my McRIB) and some spicy cranberry relish that my friend Wendi made during one of her canning binges.

This was good, people! I mean, you can’t really fuck up a pig in a blanket, but still. With the sauce and the garnish–this is so holly jolly I just can’t stand it.
