2012 Dinner is Served! Year in Review

Hello, darlings. The world didn’t explode on the winter solstice, so here we are at the end of another calendar year. Can you believe it? I can’t. I really, really can’t.

2012 has been a year of high points (yay, job promotion!), low points, (R.I.P. Cleveland) and overall weirdness (basically everything involving OKCupid). But most of all it was a year of FOOD. Lots and lots of food. Over 80 posts-worth of food.

New Year’s Eve 1972!
So I totally know what I’ll be watching with Brian on Monday night.

Traditionally at the end of the year we take a moment to look back. So here, according to you, the readers (ooooh, site stats!), are the top 5 dishes from 2012:

Honorable Mention: Weenie Wreath

Wiener Wednesday made a big splash when it was introduced in July. And Weenie Wreath gets the nod for most-read in the wiener category, even though it was just published this month. I hope that these festive franks made it onto many a holiday table.

5. Card 62 Stuffed Cabbage Rolls (Hungarian Style)

This was my 100th post. This meal had it all: Jell-O, pudding, slow cooking, slivered almonds, cabbage, and gratuitous Nicolas Cage action. A winner. If you haven’t checked this one out, there is no time like the present.

4. Cock-a-Doodle Casserole

This was part of a casserole challenge with some of my fellow retro food bloggers. I love a good challenge. And this one involved creamed corn. Rad.

3. Card 69. Hawaiian Spareribs

The post in which I go hardcore stream of consciousness and get from the Pro Bowl to my birthday to Diary Queen Blizzards to William R. Moses to Drew Peterson and Rob Lowe. But really, it doesn’t take much to get me back to this:

Definitely a 2012 highlight. And that clip will NEVER. GET. OLD.

2. Swedish Jellied Veal (Kalvsylta)

The reason for this post’s popularity can be summed up in three words: Veal. In. Jell-O.

And the number one post is—-

Pittsburgh Chipped Ham Barbecue Sandwiches with Church Lady Slaw!

Why? Because people know that chip chop ham is good shit.

Happy New Year, everybody! I hope that you all have a terrific 2013 full of food, fun, family, and good fortune.

Thanks for being a part of Dinner is Served 1972 in 2012. I look forward to sharing more of my culinary adventures with you–I have a few surprises up my sleeve for 2013, so stay tuned. Same Bat Time. Same Bat Channel.

  1. Want to copy articles from other pages rewrite them in seconds and post on your website, or use for contextual backlinks?

You can save a lot of writing work, just search in google:
    Daradess’s Rewriter

  2. Overjoyed to have made your acquaintance in 2012 and looking forward to lurking around your blog in 2013.

You’ll be pleased to hear that in the UK this post appears to have been sponsored by “super fruity slots” which I can only assume is an online way of gambling on fruit. I may try it as they are offering me £5 free bonus!

    Happy happy happy 2013 x
