49. Paella

Ohmygodyouguys! An actual Dinner is Served dinner! When was the last time that happened?

Um, so long ago that I can’t even tell you how long ago it was that I made this dinner. So long ago that #49 was the card voted to be my 80th dinner.DSCF4785DSCF4786

So excuse me if I don’t talk at length about the Paella–it was fine, although nothing life-changing–it’s just that it was so long ago that I don’t remember a damn thing about it.

But there were olive puffs!

It’s all very Sausage Cheese Balls, no?

These were a success. And tasty. I think that the fact that I froze them before baking was key. They kept their shape.

Orca-The-Killer-Whale-1977-horror-movies-8268468-418-640So as I’m writing this I have Orca: the Killer Whale on in the background. Have you seen it? It is a Jaws knock-off but it has this whole save the whales, save the planet message to it. Whatever.

The basic story is AWESOME: killer whale witnesses his mate have miscarriage after she gets captured by Richard Harris (the original Dumbledore). Yeah, you read that right–killer whale miscarriage (which, should also be on the short list of names for my imaginary punk rock band). And then the whale loses his shit and tries to take down a whole seaside village while out avenging the deaths of his lady whale and their unborn child.

Seriously. Someone wrote that script. And then got the money to film it.

And the whale half-eats Bo Derek.

And Orca has an awesome theme song that me and my mum got such a kick out of years and years ago when this was on heavy cable tv rotation.

It’s one of the weirdest songs ever. EVER.

And that video doesn’t make it any less weird.

And here’s the trailer:

And then there’s this guy:

Who totally looks like this guy:

The similarities are striking. Both Orca the Killer Cat and Brian are cold-blooded killers and hate everything but food, disdain, and murder.

So…Orca comes from the ocean and so do the shrimp and the clams in this dish?

I know, I’m reaching.

Look! Paella!

And really, that’s all I’ve got. Dinner is Served!

  1. I literally laughed out loud at the pic of Brian, the Killer Whale! Although the look on his face was a bit too serene to be a cold-blooded killer. Maybe a 9 Lives spokescat?
