Happy Labor Day!

Greetings and salutations, darlings!

I’m going to take a little time off for the holiday, so you won’t see me here or on the Facebook page until late next week. I know that it will be hard, but don’t miss me too much. I promise that I’ll return.

In the meantime, I want to give you some ideas for your Labor Day cookouts, picnics, clam bakes, or whatever it is that you do to celebrate the labor of the–we remember the people who–OK, what the hell are we celebrating for Labor Day? Unions? Yeah, it’s unions. It’s gotta be.

Whatever. It’s an excuse to drink and enjoy a long weekend.

And for your holiday weekend, here are some dishes that would be welcome at any shindig.

Barbecued Chuck Roast! Look how deliciously charred that piece of beef is! And it’s paired with a corn relish. And that’s a macaroni bake. Who doesn’t love Mac & Cheese?

Yum. This was delicious!

Also, your guests will marvel at the 8th Wonder of the World: Frosty Melon:

This potato salad is the best potato salad I’ve ever had and would be perfect to bring to a pot-luck.

Or bust out the slow cooker and do a Yinzer take on BBQ Pulled Pork with my Pittsburgh Chipped Ham Barbecue Sammiches with Church Lady Slaw.

These sammiches really are delicious, you guys. And cheap! I want one right now.

So there ya go. Those are just a few ideas (don’t say I never did anything for you).

Of course, you could just go with the classic and cook up some hot dogs. I think I’ve given you ample inspiration through the magic that is Wiener Wednesdays.

I don’t know if this dude is really stoked that he’s a weenie or if he’s mad as hell and he’s not gonna take it anymore.

Happy Labor Day! And God bless us, everyone!

  1. mmmm, frosty melon. Pity its raining all day today. I will probably eat bbq sauce with a spoon in front of the TV.

Also, is it unions? I actually don’t know either, although FB is blowing up with “remember the reason for the season” photos of soldiers with dogs, which i do think is incorrect.
